MSWAC FOUNDER & PROFILE

There are several known Wushu schools in the country. But most of it is within the heart of Chinatown, with authentic Chinese-Filipino practitioners. Very few Wushu schools or organizations are known outside the vicinity. In Cavite, the MODERN WUSHU SOCIETY OF THE PHILIPPINES is one of the groups established to promote the Chinese martial arts in the country.

After many years of learning forms of bare-hand and weapons; after all the punches, kicks, stabs, cuts, and deflections, a martial artist may desire to seek for loyal students who would share his zeal and enthussiasm for the art.

Such us the vision of ALEJANDER ALMUEDA SUYO "SIR LNZ" founder and head coach of the Modern Wushu Society of the Philippines. After year of training under the Wushu Federation Philippines (1996), and under different grandmasters; after leading another Wushu groups; after a SILVER MEDAL in the 24 STEPS TAIJIQUAN in the 1998 3rd national Taijiquan Championships, and GOLD MEDAL in the NANQUAN event in the 2000 Wushu National Championships; he finally realized his vission by founding MWSP.

Mr. Suyo has set a mission for his group, which are: (1) to promote Wushu as a martial arts sport; (2) to keep the Filipino youth off the streets and introduce them to competitive sports; (3) to teach them the essence and discipline of Wushu; (4) to develope filipino athletes who shall represent the counrty in the future National competitions and International competitions; (5) to benifit Wushu as good health, ethical and spiritual, and competency; (6) and to develop varsity team in schools/institutions.

The Cavite based society was founded only on JANUARY 8, 2003, and after four months, the group already has 40 members. Out of the 40 members 23 of them competed in the 2003 Wushu National Championships held at he Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, Manila Philippines on May 17-18.

LIAHNNE BARAQUIEL 13 years old, bagged the BRONZE MEDAL for the 16 steps Taijiquan for the MWSP competing team, a feat not bad for a four months old group. It was the same year that the organization won many medals.
